Davor Branimir Vincze

compositeur (né en 1983)

My course of studies includes music academies in Graz and Stuttgart as well as the professional formation at Ircam (Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics/Music). During this time I had the opportunity to learn from composers such as G. Kühr, C. Gadenstätter, G.F. Haas, M. Stroppa, J.C. Walter and M. Lanza.

I took part in renowned festivals and residency programs for composers like Royaumont, Steirischer Herbst, etc., where I was able to exchange and discuss my ideas with P. Ablinger, B. Ferneyhough, M. Andre, H. Parra and others. My pieces have been performed by professional ensembles for new music (Ensemble Recherche, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern) and the acceptance of my work also led to several scholarships (Frankopan, Erasmus, etc.), which allowed me to finance my studies.

As an artist I am very much influenced by modern media. The overload of information we are exposed to in the internet for example fascinates me – I guess one can hear this abundance in my music as well already through the quantity of notes, with many things happening at the same time and also through an acceleration, that does not seem to lead to anything in the end. Also I am interested in topics concerning hidden feelings, cravings and all those things one would like to do, say, make, but does not dare, and thus often use texts evolving around these semantics. From a technical point of view, due to my previous studies in medicine, I tend to use natural, biological phenomena as an inspiration and/or solution for my sound explorations. That is why algorithms and electronics are part of my work.
